Great place for OEM parts. Had stuff the dealer didn't. Get schematics for any part your working on.

Speedy Disassembly

Last night, I got home from work and with in 2 hours, I had Betty all in pieces again back down to the frame.

I'm prepping the frame to paint now. Hopefully I'll have the frame finished by the end of the weekend

Oh Yeah! She Runs Like a Raped Ape

A little hard to turn over, had to jump start a dead battery but she fired up!

I was told the the top end was rebuilt not long ago and there's a performance carb on this thing.

There's a fire in Betty!

Had it running a couple minutes. My friend took a video. I'll post it when I get it.

My plan now is to strip her down again and reassemble piece by piece, restoring each part as I go.

Looks Can Be Deceiving

I put some more parts on and painted over some of the rust. Looks good eh? Well, this thing is still light years away from being road worthy. The wiring is gonna be the biggest headache.

I did get an oil tank for it but it's all chopped up. There's some real winners on eBay.

Don't Try This at Home

I put the motor in tonight. Boy that thing was heavy.

Though it was way heavier then the cb 350 engine, it was easier to get in. More room in the frame. Still, I recommend getting a friend or at least a spouse to help. I'm pretty sure dead lifting that thing into the frame wasn't too good for me.

Playing After Midnight

I started to assemble Betty partially 'cause I want to and partially because she'll take up less space when assembled.

I'm definitely missing some parts, most notably an oil tank. Fortunately, there's one on eBay for $20 ending in a couple hours with no bids.

I'm also missing spacers for the axles. It's possible that they're in that big box of crap.

It took only 2 hours to get to this point however, the wheels will have to come off again once I locate spacers .

Coincidence?

My Dad used to have an 84 Sporty Shovel Head 1000 XLX. Red, just like this one.

He used to have nightmares that he sold it to me and came home from work to see it all in pieces. Life can be so ironic some times.

Don't fear Dad, I'll do ya proud!
